The Overhaul is the everything package. The outside gets whatever correction it actually needs, either the full polish and wax or the sanding stage first, and then the rest of the boat gets the same level of attention. Stainless steel polished. All the interior fibreglass machine polished, including the nooks around the dashboard and the inside of the seating walls. Cabin and sleeping quarters cleaned. Every compartment emptied and wiped out, floors done, vinyl dressed and protected, canvas cleaned, and the inside and outside of every window. Most people who book it have just bought a boat that is new to them and want it perfect before the first season, or they simply want it off the list for the year.

Why the Overhaul is a sequence, not a list
The Overhaul looks like a long list of jobs and it is really one job done in a fixed order. Wash before decontamination, decontamination before any machine work, machine work before protection, and the interior last so that nothing kicked up outside lands on a seat that has already been cleaned. Run those out of order and the boat looks fine in the yard and disappointing in direct sun a fortnight later. The reason this package takes a full commitment of time is not that there are more items on the list. It is that each stage has to be finished before the next one can start.
The inside gets machine work too
This is the part people do not expect. On the Overhaul the interior fibreglass is machine polished, not just wiped: the nooks around the dashboard, the inside faces of the seating walls, the moulded surfaces that get sun all day with nothing on them. Interior gel coat oxidises exactly like the hull does, it just does it somewhere people have stopped looking. Cleaning it makes it clean. Polishing it makes it match the outside.
Stainless is a separate job from gel coat
Rails, cleats, hardware and trim need a different product and a different process from fibreglass, which is why a great many details skip them or give them a wipe. Left alone, stainless on a boat picks up surface rust spotting from the water and the air around it, and it is usually the first thing a guest touches on the way aboard. Polished properly it is one of the things that makes a boat read as genuinely finished rather than merely clean.
Compartments, canvas and the places nobody opens
Lockers, the anchor well, under seats and the storage that has been closed since last season all get emptied, cleaned and dried rather than shut again. Canvas gets cleaned as its own item. These are the areas where a boat quietly deteriorates: damp trapped in a closed compartment over a season is how mildew starts, and it starts out of sight before it appears anywhere you can see it.
Why it is not an annual package
Most owners who book an Overhaul have just taken on a boat that is new to them and want it brought to a standard, or they want the whole thing dealt with in one go and off the list for the year. Once a boat has been through it, keeping it there is a much smaller job: regular washing and a correction when the finish asks for one, rather than the full sequence again. Being told that is cheaper than not being told it.

What exactly is included in the Overhaul?+
The outside gets whatever correction it needs, either the full compound, polish and seal or the sanding stage first. Who actually books this one?+
Usually somebody who has just bought a boat that is new to them, often an expensive one, and wants it perfect before the first season rather than working through it a piece at a time. The other common version is an owner who simply wants the whole thing off their list for the year. It is not a package most people need annually.
Do older boats respond as well as newer ones?+
Often the transformation is bigger, because there is more to recover. If the gel coat is heavily chalked the outside portion becomes the sanding process rather than a straight compound, and we will tell you that when we come out to look, before you commit to anything.
